Compassionate MAID support in Alberta

At Guidance in Every Season, we offer empathetic and neutral support to individuals and families navigating the complexities of medically assisted death. We are here to help you through every step of this journey.

Understanding MAID support in your community

Guidance in Every Season provides neutral, compassionate, non-medical support to adults and families in Grande Prairie and surrounding communities who are exploring, preparing for, reconsidering, or grieving a medically assisted death. Our support includes listening, preparing questions for the healthcare team, facilitating family communication, practical planning, developing legacy and vigil ideas, offering comfort-focused presence, and providing bereavement resources. Guidance in Every Season neither promotes nor discourages MAID, focusing solely on respectful, unbiased assistance for you and your loved ones.

Who benefits from our MAID support services?

Our MAID support services are designed for capable adults considering or preparing for MAID, loved ones who need help understanding and organizing what comes next, and families experiencing disagreement, uncertainty, or anticipatory grief. We support each person without judgment or pressure, and our assistance continues if the client pauses, postpones, withdraws, is found ineligible, or dies naturally. The decision always belongs to the capable adult, who may change their mind at any time.

What to expect from our support

When you work with Guidance in Every Season, you can expect non-medical companionship, practical planning assistance, support for family communication, creative legacy and vigil ideas, help in preparing questions for the AHS Care Coordination Service or healthcare team, and access to grief resources. Please note that we do not assess eligibility or capacity, provide or administer MAID, recommend a decision, offer medical or legal advice, promise approval or timing, or replace Alberta Health Services, physicians, nurse practitioners, palliative care, counselling, spiritual care, or emergency services. For AHS MAID information, please contact MAID.careteam@ahs.ca or Health Link at 811. For immediate danger, call 911; for suicide crisis support in Canada, call or text 988.
